One of the best young singers on the planet celebrates a birthday on this 10th day of March. No, not Miley Cyrus. No, not Justin Bieber (that was last week. We’re talking about Carrie Underwood, American Idol winner turned American country sensation and universal cutie. She’s 27 today. Happy birthday, Carrie!

On top of being a terrific talent with 10 million-plus record sales to her name, the product of Checotah, Oklahoma, is smart, sexy and even down to earth.
You gotta give it to Heidi Montag here. Mocking her own plastic surgery addiction as part of an effort to urge Congress and consumers to enact fiscal reform? Genius.
The Hills star is now joining the rest of the country in laughing at The Hills star with the help of Funny or Die and director Ron Howard, who created this new video.
The goal? To urge Congress to enact financial reform.
“I was honored to work with the amazing Ron Howard,” Montag said. “He was kind, generous and made me feel so comfortable … feel so confident in my talent.”
Whatever that might consist of.

In any case, Montag’s video is part of a series by the Americans for Financial Reform that urges, among other things, massive call-ins throughout the week to push Congress toward forming a strong, independent Consumer Financial Protection Agency.
Heidi jokes in the pseudo PSA that reality stars who max out their credit cards for unnecessary plastic surgery need financial relief. What is a poor gal to do?!
Funny and Die is working on additional videos to urge the government to act on and pass financial reform. Follow the jump to see Heidi Montag do her part …

Controversial, frequently absent Grey’s Anatomy cast member Katherine Heigl may be returning to the halls of Seattle Grace Hospital, but she won’t be doing it as a blonde!
The actress stepped out for lunch yesterday in L.A. as a brunette, and while Katherine has become one of Hollywood’s most noteworthy blondes, the dark ‘do does the job.

It may not be her signature look, but we like the length as well, and sometimes, a little change is good. We just wonder if Izzie Stevens will now become brunette, too.

What’s Katherine Heigl’s best hair color?
The red carpet of the Academy Awards was not the only place last night to laugh at Zoe Saldana or drool over Taylor Lautner.
Following the ceremony, anyone who is anyone – and even anyone who is slowly becoming no one (hi, Jessica Simpson!) – stopped by the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

From award winners to former American Idol finalists, we’ve posted photos of the stars at this annual shindig below.
When Evan Bayh announced last month that he would not seek reelection as the Indiana Senator, an unusual name surfaced as his replacement: Kendra Wilkinson. Might the former naked model consider it? To quote a political figure with the same IQ as Kendra: You betcha!
“I don’t even know what the Senate does,” Kendra tells Details magazine in a new interview, sounding more and more like Sarah Palin. “I’ll run for it, but I don’t really know what it means. I would definitely campaign for better education in schools and donate more money to inner-city schools and stuff like that.
“I would definitely love to see kids have more focus in life with sports and stuff, and I know that, like, Mr. Schwarzenegger wants to take away our sports and our art. I’m totally 100 percent against that. Our kids need focus, especially these days when there are drugs all over the place.”

On her new house: It’s so fricking amazing. It’s in Tarzana, L.A. I’d never heard of it before, but it’s almost better than Hollywood. I can’t wait to show the house off on TV. Five bedrooms, like, seven bathrooms, a pool, a grotto-type thing.

She is far from the most seasoned contender on Dancing with the Stars, but Kate Gosselin is already popular with the cast and has tons of fans pulling for her.
Even Jon Gosselin says he’s on Team Kate.

Now that’s saying something. The previous time he was aligned with that woman, dude ended up with eight kids, a midlife crisis at 32 and fat child support payments.
“Congratulations to Kate for joining the new season of DWTS. I am thrilled for her. She has my support and vote,” the douchebag wrote on Twitter, diplomatically.

Apparently in a peacemaking mood (Morgan Christie must have put out), Jon added, “Here is to 2010 for new beginnings and leaving the past mistakes in 2009.”
That was really nice of Jon, but if Hailey Glassman has taught us anything, it’s that his Johnson is two inches long you can’t always take what he says at face value.
A source close to the infamous father says that “Jon’s extremely angry because doing Dancing with the Stars will keep [Kate] away from their children for days.”
